What are the stages of a hair transplant in Turkey?
A hair transplant procedure in Turkey takes place according to specific steps, aimed at improving the patient’s experience while ensuring medical procedure quality.
A hair transplant surgery is based on two main techniques:
- Follicular unit extraction, or FUE: the removal of individual follicles from a donor area, which will be transplanted as such to the recipient area;
- Follicular unit transplantation, or FUT: removing a strip of skin that includes the hairs, with the purpose of transferring it to the recipient area.
The technique choice influences the first step of the process, which is the actual collection of hair.
Below, our team lists the hair transplant procedure stages:
- Initial consultation: our team will ask you to come to our clinic in person for the initial consult with one of our experienced hair transplant doctors. While a pre-consult discussion can be held remotely, we do ask our patients to schedule an in-person pre-intervention session with their surgeon. This appointment can take place a day prior to the hair transplant;
- Scalp preparation: hair shaving may be required. Our team will prepare you for this and you may shave your hair in advance, if needed, before you travel to Turkey;
- Medical checks: on a case-by-case basis, the doctor may order addition blood tests. These can usually be performed on the day before the hair transplant procedure;
- Anaesthesia: hair transplants can be performed with light sedation/local anaesthesia. At this stage, our nurses will administer the anaesthetic in preparation for the procedure;
- Extraction: the surgeon harvests the hair follicles or the strip used for the transplant itself;

What is the expected timeline to see the final results?
Taking into account the shedding and regrowth phases, patients can expect to see the final natural results of their hair transplant approximately 12 months after the procedure.
Hair transplant patients can expect several days of adequate aftercare, followed by a healing period.
An important issue to note is that the transplanted hairs will fall out as part of the natural hair growth and restoration process. This is not a cause for alarm, and it does not mean that the transplant was unsuccessful.

How do hair transplant costs in Turkey compare to those in Canada?
The average hair transplant cost in Canada can start at CAD7,200, as the price per graft can start at around CAD3.6 or 3.75 and up to approximately CAD5 per graft.
This means that the hair transplant cost in Turkey can be USD 2,500 versus USD 5,243 for 2,000 grafts in Canada (with the price adjusted from Canadian dollars to American dollars).
Another important issue to keep in mind when calculating the hair transplant costs in Canada, in comparison to those offered by our experts in hair transplant in Turkey, is that the value-added tax varies in Canada according to province.
Therefore, not only do the prices per graft vary depending on where you are in Canada (Toronto vs. Ontario, for example), but also depending on the value of other taxes. Currently, the value of the harmonised sales tax (HST, which is the GST blended with the provincial sales tax) in Ontario is 13%.
